Biography

Talita Sofija Komelj (b. 1999, Slovenia) is one of the most promising young opera singers of her generation, praised for her unique, expressive voice and compelling stage presence. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 2023 under Professor Pia Brodnik and her Master’s degree in 2026 under Professor Matjaž Robavs at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music. During her studies, she quickly drew attention for her enthusiasm and musical maturity in interpreting complex opera roles. Talita made her debut as Poppea in Händel’s Agrippina (directed by Rocc, conducted by Egon Mihajlović) at Cankar Hall, Ljubljana, in 2022. In 2023, she joined the Pehlivanian Professional Opera Academy, performing Violetta Valery in La traviata on tour across Slovenia, some of that performances were also part of the prestigious Ljubljana Festival. She subsequently appeared as Musetta in La Bohème (2024) and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (2025). During her time at PPOA, she was mentored by internationally acclaimed artists, including baritone Caner Agkün, soprano Dilruba Bilgi, tenor Janez Lotrič, and pianists Kirstin Okerlund and Fügen Yigitgil. In July 2025, she debuted at the Ljubljana Opera House as Poppea in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (directed by Eva Hribernik, conducted by Egon Mihajlović). That production was also part of the Ljubljana Festival. Talita has performed in concerts featuring Slovenia’s most promising young musicians, including the Opening Concert of the Imago Sloveniae Summer Festival (conducted by Mojca Lavrenčič), the Manager’s Concert (conducted by Maestro George Pehlivanian), and the St. Nicholas Concert (conducted by Davorin Mori). Many of these performances were broadcast on national television. She has received top prizes at international competitions, including 1st Prize at the Iuventus Canti International Vocal Competition (Slovakia), 1st Prize at the Lav Mirski International Vocal Competition (Osijek), 2nd Prize at the Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition (Deutschlandsberg), and 3rd Prize at the Maribor International Vocal Competition. Talita has collaborated with esteemed orchestras such as the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian National Theatre Maribor Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the Ljubljana Conservatory, Symphony Orchestra Cantabile, Pehlivanian Professional Opera Academy Festival Orchestra, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Orchestra. Since 2016, she has been a scholarship recipient of the Urban Municipality of Ljubljana and has also received support from the Klasika Foundation.
